Integrated fire protection for batteries

In our technology-driven society, high-performance batteries have become indispensable, and their importance will keep growing as mobility concepts change. At the same time, fire protection requirements in battery technology rise constantly. Whether during production, storage, transport, use or recycling, the right fire protection measures are essential to the safe use of high-voltage energy systems. As one of the leading manufacturers of innovative fire protection products for industrial applications, we can look back on more than 50 years of research and development experience. We not only have our own fire furnaces: thanks to a newly developed battery fire simulation, we can also guarantee safe and rapid material testing. Together with you, we will develop the right solution for your application.

Fire protection solutions for electric mobility

The most advanced mobility concepts call for state-of-the-art fire protection. Whether electric cars, lorries, rolling stock, aircraft, e-scooters or ferries, svt stands out as your experienced partner in everything to do with passive fire protection. Our portfolio includes a wide range of solutions for effective separation of battery cells and modules, and also covers fire protection coatings, encapsulation compounds, fire protection boards and many more products designed to keep people and property safe.

Patented testing capability: batteries put to the test

A range of materials is used to protect the battery box and its surroundings from the immense stresses a battery fire can produce. These materials have to withstand extreme temperatures, pressure changes and particle bombardment. Our patented test process lets us test materials quickly, simply and cost-effectively.
The test lets us simulate the stresses acting on the housing during a battery fire and give our customers the best possible support in their subsequent choice of material. The duration of the actual stress, the maximum temperature and the particle size needed for the bombardment can all be set as required. The distance and the angle between the test specimen and the particle outlet can also be set to your specification. Every relevant parameter can therefore be varied as needed, precisely, flexibly and quickly.

Market requirements and developments

Much of the growing demand for batteries comes from the shift to electric mobility, driven mainly by the automotive industry. Rail transport and consumer equipment such as e-bikes account for a growing share of that demand too. Alongside electric mobility, sectors such as energy storage systems (ESS) and consumer goods will also see demand for battery systems rise. svt offers a range of fire protection solutions to meet that need.
