Invisible corrosion: the silent enemy in engine rooms
Compartir
🚢🌧️⚙️ Corrosion doesn't always show up. On many vessels, a constant temperature difference or a poorly sealed joint is enough to trigger a slow but unstoppable process: humidity, condensation, rust... and in a short time, cable trays, electrical panels, or metal supports are compromised.
Although all cable penetrations leave the shipyard certified and sealed, mid-life inspections reveal degraded or modified seals following cable extensions. That small gap is the entry point for moisture, salt, and, ultimately, the corrosion you see in the image.
For this reason, more and more shipowners are turning to certified sealing and insulation solutions, such as SVT systems, which create effective barriers against fire, water, and gas. By preventing moisture from entering technical areas, these systems also reduce one of the factors that trigger corrosion and restore the A-60 classification.
✅Result: Seal restored in less than an hour, risk of failure minimized, and audits passed without surprises.
