🔥 Offshore Emergency: When Every Second Counts

The clock read 3:17 a.m. on the cargo ship crossing the Atlantic bound for Hamburg. The crew was resting after a demanding day when an alarm broke the night silence. Smoke billowed from the engine room.

The officer on duty rushed to the control panel. A short circuit had started a fire in the electrical compartments. The flames were spreading rapidly, fueled by the ventilation ducts. If left unchecked, they could spread to other critical areas of the ship.

Every second counted.

The emergency team was mobilized. The captain had already faced a similar situation years before, but this time there was a big difference: the ship was protected with GEAQUELLO® E 950 .

🔹 The difference between an emergency and a catastrophe

GEAQUELLO® E 950, a cable and pipe sealing system, prevented the fire and smoke from spreading beyond the engine room. The flames attempted to escape through the cable glands and ducts, but the intumescent seals expanded with the heat, blocking any possible paths of spread.

Thanks to this barrier, the firefighting team was able to quickly contain the fire without affecting other essential areas of the ship. There were no injuries. There was no serious structural damage.

The cargo ship continued its journey.

💡 The lesson: In an environment as challenging as the marine industry, prevention is everything. SVT products, such as GEAQUELLO® and FLAMMADUR®, not only comply with regulations; they save lives and protect assets.
